Ce rabot, pour l'avoir essayé , est un régal sur les bois difficiles. La lumière est très étroite mais laisse quad même sortir le copeau.

Je suis retombé sur des explications de Bill Carter sur l'ajustement du "coin" avant:

At the end of the 1800c in this country they developed the dovetailed steel mitre plane which has an extremely fine mouth. Also the wooden mitre plane, again with an extremely fine mouth. The idea of the wooden mouth closer is to enable you to achieve the fine mouth. It also enables you to return to a fine mouth when the bottom of the plane wears down. The mouth closer itself has parallel sides and a tapering top to bottom front and back face. The rear wood face of the closer projects backwards beyond the mouth and then the bottom tapers the other way achieving this very fine mouth. When the plane is new the closer, because of it's taper is hammered into the plane and cleaned off at the bottom flush. You don't touch this again until the plane wears down on the sole. Then you knock the mouth closer out of the plane take a few shavings off the rear facing slope or taper put the closer back into the plane, tap it down firm, you might have to do this 2 or 3 times, trial and error until you get the required width of the mouth as original. The bottom of the mouth closer now sticks out of the bottom of the plane, which you level off making it as new. One last point, the hardness of the end grain in the mouth closer also helps to resist the wear on the sole of the plane. Boxwood is ideal for this.
